Donald Willis Blakesley Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament

We are thrilled to announce that we proudly sponsored the Donald Willis Blakesley Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament this year! Not only did we support a wonderful cause, but we also had a special surprise for all the golf enthusiasts out there.

Introducing the Genesis Hole-in-One Challenge! Participants had a chance to win big by sinking an incredible hole-in-one shot. One lucky golfer had the opportunity to drive away in a brand-new Genesis vehicle!

This event was an amazing opportunity for us to honor the memory of Donald Willis Blakesley while contributing to the education of deserving students through the scholarship fund. We firmly believe in the power of education and are committed to supporting bright minds in their pursuit of excellence.

A huge shout-out to all the participants, volunteers, and organizers who made this tournament a resounding success. Your dedication and support are truly remarkable!

Surprise Squad honors Springfield janitor who has lasting impact on students

The Hyundai Dealers Surprise Squad is back in a big way. This month, we are celebrating a team member from the Alice Beal Elementary School in Springfield who keeps the school clean, kids safe, and has a lasting impact on the students.

“It’s not an easy job and he does it with a smile on his face,” said Alice Beal Elementary School Principal Kate Fancy.

Fancy told Western Mass News that Curtis Williams, the school’s janitor, has the unique ability to brighten everyone’s day.

“He is the first one outside greeting students, keeping them safe during traffic duty. It’s not only the students, but it’s the parents too,” Fancy added.

One of those parents, Maria Martinez, said Williams has a had a major impact on her daughter’s school experience and her life.

“He is so kind, so caring with us. He keeps the school clean and he has a big smile when he arrives to the school,” Martinez said.

“He’s a friend and he’s a good person,” added fifth grader Gia Milford.

Because Williams does so much for the students and the school, we decided to do something special for him.

“There’s nothing like seeing the children smile and that they want to come to school every day. This is awesome, just awesome,” Williams said.

“Congrats. On behalf of the Western Mass. Hyundai Dealers, we are going to donate $500 to the school in your name for you to use as you see fit,” said Mike Paquette, general sales manager at Country Hyundai.

Surprise Squad honors Holyoke teacher helping students in and out of the classroom

The Hyundai Dealers Surprise Squad is back to honor another educator who is going above and beyond in and out of the classroom. Eric Wood is a history teacher at Mater Dolorosa School in Holyoke, the PTO president, and a soccer coach, but recently, he took on a new role and stepped in as a father figure for one of his students.

Sean Hall is a seventh grader at Mater Dolorosa School in Holyoke. His father has been away over the past several months for government training, which has left his mom, Jacqueline, with her hands full and taking care of their three kids, but she isn’t doing it entirely alone. It’s people like Wood, Sean’s history teacher, who have stepped in to help.

“There was a school dance during this time and I actually didn’t know how to tie a tie. That’s something, unfortunately, my husband usually takes care of and so Mr. Wood was like ‘Absolutely, bring the tie to class. I’ll teach everybody how to tie a tie,’” Jacqueline Hall explained.

However, it goes beyond just a tie lesson in Sean’s class.

The Western Mass. Hyundai Dealers were excited to get a chance to honor someone so deserving.

“Eric Wood is, I think, embodies everything that every school and community really needs. Not only is he here to support the school and all the students, but when anyone needs something outside, he steps up,” Cosenzi added.
